For Love Of All ThingsGlobe Aware has had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a social media campaign through FLOAT (For Love Of All Things). We have designed limited edition t-shirts that will only be available until Monday May 4th. We are trying to reach our goal of selling 150 t-shirts. FLOAT will donate $8.00 for each t-shirt sold to Globe Aware. Thank you to everyone who has already purchased a t-shirt! All donations help promote sustainability in the communities we serve abroad. http://shop.float.org/ |

NepalAs for the recent events in Nepal, our hearts sincerely go out to the people affected by the devastating earthquake and aftershocks. Thousands of people perished, countless homes and historic buildings have been reduced to rubble, leaving an untold number of people homeless. Globe Aware has conducted programs in Nepal, though we will not be operating there for at least the coming year. We and many of our industry peers feel strongly that extreme disaster relief is best left in the hands of agencies and organizations that specialize in what is most needed. We do not operate heavy equipment and machinery, nor do we want to put our volunteers in harms’ way. Many people mistakenly think that merely showing up as an extra set of hands will help without realizing that there are thousands already on hand. Usually it is access to specialized equipment to pick up and remove structures, and doctors with specialized care that is most needed. Sending funds in the ways of supplies for those who have survived is also extremely helpful. We encourage donations to the following organizations: Red CrossThe Nepal Red Cross Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross said they are presently responding to "restoring family links needs in the areas affected by the earthquake in Nepal." UNICEFThe U.N. children's agency, UNICEF, said it is preparing two cargo flights with a combined 120 tons of humanitarian goods including medical and hospital supplies, tens and blankets. The urgent airlift will be sent to Kathmandu, where the supplies will provide relief for nearly 1 million children in Nepal in need of help, the group added. World Food ProgramThe World food Program said it is actively assessing the earthquake's damage and working to "help the millions affected by the worst earthquake to hit the country since the 1930s" by providing food. For online donation information, click here.
International Medical CorpsFacebook is rolling out a message at the top of users' News Feeds with an option to donate to the IMC, "which has emergency response teams operating mobile medical units to deliver critically needed medical care and medicines to the regions hardest hit by the earthquake."
